The new concept for the Frankenstein novel was to take on victim blaming and rape culture. I referenced how the Creation was blamed for Frankenstein’s egregious entitlement to another persons body; much like victims of sexual assault are often blamed.
The consequences of Frankensteins actions were turmoil and pain of others. And when it came time to question who was at fault it was much easier to say the “monster” than to blame the intelligent, forward thinking doctor, for his monstrous actions. This is indicative of how we treat rapes in this country. All too often after a rape the victim is looked at for blame instead of looking at the true cause of the violation, the perpetrator and society. Throughout the text are selected quotes and photos which depict our society's perceived entitlement to other's bodies.
